Y’all want to hear the best news ever?
Ready?
Seriously, are you ready?
Y’all want to hear these four words?
I’m not sure if you’re truly ready for this!
“Shuddup Ryan! Spit it out!”
Okay, okay! I was just trying to hook my readers before I delivered the good news.
And that news is…2016 is almost over!
I’ve seen the gym in January. New year’s resolutions make people do crazy things.
|
Has this been a year, or has it been a year? From losing beloved celebrities like Gene Wilder and Carrie Fisher to music icons like Glenn Frey and Prince, it’s been a year.
My goodness, has it been a year!
Personally, I’ve been affected by the passing of my favorite high school teacher of all time. As well as a beloved friend and former co-worker on Christmas Day.
It’s been a painful year for many. But this has been the most consequential year of my life.
- I made a declaration that I was going to move to New York after the first of the year.
- My voice on personal development and transformation is read on this global platform every week.
- Team Ryan Coaching is starting to take off.
- We began as strangers, but we’re now family. I have a coaching family that extends from Maine, over to Chicago, down to New Orleans, and all the way down to the Cayman Islands.
- My health is as good as it’s been in my entire life – mentally, physically, spiritually, and emotionally.
- And I’m neck deep in a new novel.
Look, it’s been a difficult year. I will brag and talk up Accomplishment Coaching until the cows, horses, and pigs all come home to roost. (Mixed metaphors, I know. Shuddup.) But AC is a grueling program. And the mere fact that I’m graduating in four weeks just blows my mind.
6 Questions that can lead you to an extraordinary 2017
I know that it’s been a rough year for many. I don’t discount that. But I invite you all to consider your answers to a few questions:
- Are you alive? (obvious question is obvious. Roll with me here.)
- Do you have clean running water and food?
- Are you healthy?
- Are you loved?
- Are you the same person today than you were a year ago?
- Have you changed? (And how?)
If you can answer yes to any of those questions, then you’re blessed beyond measure. If you’ve got a pulse, there’s still a chance to make your life extraordinary.
What better time to start, than when the calendar turns over a new year?
“Oh please! Here comes the new year, new you crap.”
I get it. I’ve seen the gym in January. New year’s resolutions make people do crazy things.
But why do we make resolutions? Why do we say we’re going to quit smoking or exercise more or lose weight or improve our relationships or…?
{insert record scratch sound effect here}
Gentlemen… (and the ladies who read this) breathe. It’s going to be okay.
Here’s my thing about new year’s resolutions. And I say this fully from the being of Coach Ryan…
New Year’s Resolutions are…in service of keeping this article PG…let’s just call them bovine excrement. New Year’s Resolutions are garbage!
I love when I see when people with a desire to better in their lives. But where are you coming from?
Do you want to lose weight because you want to improve your health because you love yourself? Or are you disgusted by how you look and want to look better because you hate yourself?
My assertion is that it’s the latter more often than not.
If you approach resolutions as an obligation, no wonder the gym is always empty by Valentine’s Day.

If you approach resolutions out of obligation I’ve got a proposition for you. Join me for an online workshop on January 3rd at 8/7 central. In this workshop, we’ll set up projects and get them established in a powerful way. I’ll be starting my own project right along with you!

Thank you so much for reading this space every week. My gratitude to the fine folks at the Good Men Project knows no bounds. This column has made me a better writer, a better coach, and has gotten my voice on a global platform every week.
I’ll leave you with the words of Maurice White – the late founder of Earth, Wind, and Fire. {side note: speaking of celebrity deaths that hit me like an anvil!}
This is from their iconic song That’s the Way of the World.
“You will find, peace of mind. If you look way down, in your heart and soul.”
We all deserve peace of mind. Dig deep and you’ll find it!
The best is yet to come! Let’s leave 2016 in our rear view in style and light 2017 on fire!
