I attended a beach clean up after a dreaded storm had moved through the area. Usually strong winds equate to increased amounts of trash and unidentifiable objects littering the beach, so I expected the worst. I thought if something bad had to happen, I just had to accept it and I could make myself useful in restoring things a bit.
Instead, the beach was pristinely clean. No trash, no seaweed piles, no giant wood planks from who-knows-what, just a beautiful shore piled with innumerable shells. Instead of the sound of waves crashing there was a gentle melody as waters peacefully washed over layers of seashells responding to the wave with dance amongst themselves. I had no task to complete but to be in awe of an exceptional moment.
Little birds were present in greater numbers than I have ever seen. A small child would run after them, for a moment chasing them away, but then they would fly back to be playfully chased again.
Nearby, a man stopped his vehicle in the road to help a turtle cross a number of rather busy lanes. Other vehicles were able to stop so he and the turtle could be safe. It was a treasure to see such an exquisite moment.
Sometimes when you go through a lot of difficulty, it feels like the storm will pound and pound and pound and then the mess it leaves behind will be so great for you that you will never be able to finish cleaning up. But thankfully there are times when peace is as sudden and as impactful as the storm was. It may look like it will never happen, but then finally the happy moment arrives when peace triumphs over the pain.
Hang in there, your much needed moment could be coming soon. You’ve got this!
