Alex Yarde has an exclusive look at the red band trailer for the new indie epic “Brutal.”
—
Brutal is the story of two very different men. Trevor (Morgan Benoit – Forbidden Kingdom, 47 Ronin) an alien abductee, is honed by decades of no-holds-barred fights into a brutal killing machine. The other is Derek (Jeff Hatch) a slick lawyer, is “fresh meat” the latest alien abductee forced to fight Trevor. Brutal features fight sequences created by a pair of Hollywood’s top stunt performers, Colin Follenweider (Avatar, X-Men) and Chris Torres (Letters from Iwo Jima). The pair are forced to fight in increasingly brutal matches within an MMA (Mixed Martial Arts) type Octagon. Trevor is morally ambiguous from years of abuse, trained to kill and survive no matter the cost. Derek wants to understand why they were chosen and desperately tries to help Trevor reclaim his humanity, join forces and escape. Writer/Director Donald Flaherty sets up the Twilight Zone type morality play perfectly through the spartan sets to look into man’s violent nature. Well choreographed, bone-crunching fights scenes will keep any MMA or action fan happy. The unwavering strength as well as the heart breaking fragility of the lead characters take Brutal to a level higher than an entertaining action/sci-fi bloodbath into an intriguing moral tale about what one is willing to give up to survive.
