100 Words on Love, by James Blakely
–
That one December night we stole food trays from the campus dining hall and went sledding.
You built a snow monster.
I pretended it ate my arm.
I can still hear your laugh and the click of the camera.
The flash.
This was the blossoming of something beautiful.
For the past nine years our friendship grew deep roots.
We became two peas in a pod stumbling through life together at a turtles pace.
Now, you are gone and my life doesn’t feel quite right.
What had been so sure and unshakable is now fragile and insubstantial.
Losing you as my best friend is killing me.
