Charlie Scaturro finds the beauty of life is in beer… um, no, that’s not it. The beauty of life is in choices made… or not, or another beer…
–––
A lot of people like beer. You probably do too. There are a lot of great things about beer. One of the best is that you can always have another beer.
That is of course, if you want to have another beer. You can decide. Totally up to you. No pressure.
That’s another great thing about having another beer; you don’t have to if you don’t want to. But you can. It’s definitely an option.
Beer doesn’t mind if you have another. Though some people might. Beer doesn’t judge. Though some people might. Beer doesn’t question your motives. Though some people might. Beer won’t ask you where you’ve been all night. Though some people might.
Beer is just cold and refreshing. Unless it hasn’t been taken care of properly. Then it might be a little bit less cold and refreshing. But you can always have another one anyway. Maybe the next beer will be colder and more refreshing.
And no matter what’s happening in your life, beer will be around. And no matter what, you can always have another beer if you want. It’s not that you have to have another one, but you could. One more beer can be pretty fun sometimes.
- Bank foreclosing on your house? You can always have another beer
- Lost your job? You can always have another beer
- Marriage crumbling? You can always have another beer
- Feel like you should go home and go to sleep? You can always have another beer
- Got that big, important meeting later in the day? You can always have another beer. (Beers at lunch can be fun. Beer during the day can be fun in general. That is of course, if you want it to be fun)
- Favorite team just won the championship? You can always have another beer. You should probably consider having another beer for this occasion
- Your friend just got married? You can always have another beer. You should probably consider having another beer for this occasion, too
- Have to wake up early the next day? You can always have another beer
- Don’t have to wake up early the next day? You can always have another beer
Maybe you don’t like beer. Though if that’s the case I may have to ask you to reevaluate your life. But really, not liking beer isn’t a big deal. This isn’t really about beer.
And even if you don’t like beer, you can always have another beer anyway. That’s another great thing about beer. It doesn’t care what you think about it.
Beer is always fun. It’s just that sometimes the people who drink beer aren’t so fun.
Beer is never boring. It’s just that sometimes the people who drink beer are boring.
Beer has always been the same. It’s just that sometimes the people who drink beer are the ones who changed.
Beer has never done anything bad. It’s just that sometimes the people who drink beer do bad things.
Whether you should or not, you can always have another beer.
There are other things in your life that you can keep doing as well. And just like having another beer, you can keep doing those things if you want. It’s totally up to you.
Beer will always be there. Those other things may always be there as well. Though they’re probably less likely to always be there in the same way that beer will be.
For better or worse, you can always have another beer. That’s the beauty of life. It’s your choice.

This is a wonderful piece on the temporality of our decisions, and that there is always a way out – destructive, though it may be. However, the title reminded me of a local brewery in Bern called Wabräu, who’s tagline “Eis hei mir no immer gno” translates roughly to “you can always have another”. Funny that in a land of infinite and cascading social pillars to break the fall of even the most unfortunate; where drinking often supersedes being a crutch and is demoted merely to sport: you can still always have another. Cheers…?
