As most of us already knew, it turns out “First World Problems” aren’t really problems at all. Not having enough clean water? Now, that’s a problem. This ad campaign from Water is Life puts it all into perspective.
Isn’t this the epitome of poverty porn? Are Black people the only ones living in “third world” countries without clean water? Or are we not supposed to notice that?
I get the point. I most certainly do. But this campaign is problematic to say the least. It perpetuates the idea of the dirty, starving Black people in need of white saviors. There had to have been a better way to make the point they were actually trying to make.
Thank you Elowwole for pointing that out. Coming from Africa, living in a “first world” (lets not even get into how i HATE those words). It always seems like Africa is always shown as the poor black people, ALWAYS. There never seems to be the good parts being shown, like the cities, or the likes. So when i came to Canada, people would be amazed by a) my English is soo good ?? How an African speak such fluent queens English b) my lack of surprise and shock at the tall buildings in the city *sigh* we also have cities… Read more »
