Does this guy reinforce body stereotypes, or is his performance good old fun?
–––
I’m not sure why I love this so much, but I do. Maybe it’s because I spend all day in a gym, working with people to develop their bodies. The thing I say most often is that your body is here to give you pleasure. It’s not about what you look like, it’s about being able to do things that bring you joy. (I doggedly refuse to discuss body shape or size with my clients. We focus entirely on setting goals about doing things, things that bring us joy.)
The minute I see any ad with a stereotypically “hot” body in it, I prepare to be upset. I prepare to rage against the machine that tells us our bodies are supposed to look a certain way, a way that is about attracting other people. I really, really, REALLY, hate that stuff. (Yes, I’m a trainer that hates the entire Fitspo industry.)
