The depressing emails have got to stop.
–
Dear Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee,
Cut it out.
I don’t mind the emails flooding my inbox every day or couple of days; it’s the spring before an election year and I understand it’s only going to get worse from here. Besides, I could just unsubscribe to your emails at any time. The constant emails are not the issue.
What is the issue is the fact that every single email I get from you is titled something along the lines of, “depressing”, “devastating”, “crushing blow”, as if you’re a Tumblr politico going through a rough patch.
Look, I understand that it’s not looking too good for Congressional Democrats right now. Money is being pulled out of House races to save Harry Reid’s chances of holding onto the top leadership role in the Senate, and even those odds are looking bad, according to Nate Silver. But one thing’s for sure: no one has ever won an election by guilt tripping voters into donating their hard-earned money into a campaign you seem willing to admit is out of reach.
I subscribe to emails from multiple parties and party organizations, including the Republican Party and campaigns from parties that don’t have a chance in hell of winning even a state representative seat, and I’ve never seen an online campaign run like this. There’s a reason for that: it’s not a winning strategy. Anyone who has closely watched a political race in their lifetime can tell you that politicians rarely give up before the race is called. You seem to be giving up eight months before the election.
I understand that it’s not looking good, and that you need to stress how dire it is for your supporters to donate to your campaign. But there have got to be better ways of doing that than blasting negativity into my email every day. So, please, can you make sure that the first thing I see when I open up my inbox isn’t a mercy plea?
I get very little email from either party and that’s because I stopped subscribing. I have other sources to give me a head up on both parties and I’ll stick with those. Even at that the requests for $$ continue. I have a simple response…. I’m flat broke, stop asking. But the extra money I do have goes for charity and that’s where it’s gonna continue going. Let the parties go to their fat cats who have the cash. I’ll volunteer but ya know what? Ya don’t get a lot of requests for volunteering, or at least I don’t.
