GLAAD President Herndon Graddick announced on Saturday that Madonna will be presenting the award to Cooper in March.
The LGBT advocacy group announced Anderson Cooper will be awarded their Vito Russo Award for openly gay media professionals on March, 16, at the 24th annual GLAAD Media Awards. The Associated Press reports that Madonna will be presenting the reward to her longtime friend at the awards ceremony. GLAAD President Herndon Graddick explaind that they chose Madonna and Cooper because they have “both used their careers to support lesbian, gay and transgender people.”
Cooper, who did not speak openly about his sexuality for years despite numerous rumors, came out in July, 2012, in an email to blogger Andrew Sullivan in which he said that yes he was gay and “couldn’t be more happy.”
