This video, made by high school student Triple Oswald and teen musician Kaitlyn K. blew my mind. Because it’s one long shot, it made me feel an immediacy: all of these people devoted so much time and discipline, to deliver this anti-bullying message. I was overwhelmed by how many thought this message was important, and that these people were high school students.
I’m more than 20 years out of high school, and the memories of being bullied still make me shudder. The set-up at the beginning of the video gave me that old feeling: it’s clear that the people who made that scene happen, knew what it’s like to be mocked and excluded.
You can read the story of the making of this video here, in a blog post by Jesse Kornbluth, where he details how the teens came up with the idea and how they got teenage singer/songwriter Kaitlyn K. on board.
I knew kids who were bullied. I’ve BEEN a bully, and I’ll go to my grave regretting every second of every instance.
This video won’t turn the tide overnight, but God bless these kids, and their descendents for many generations, for making it anyway.
