What’s the longest
you’ve ever worn
the same piece
of clothing?
Last week, Australian morning show host Karl Stefanovic admitted on the air that–as a social experiment–he wore the same suit on the air (with the exception of the days where it was out being dry-cleaned) every show for an entire year. He did it to see if he received the same criticism his co-host, Lisa Wilkinson, did for her on-air wardrobe. He didn’t. If anyone noticed, no one called him on it.
And I suppose this is where a blogger would go into what this says about our culture and the ways in which men and women are held to different standards, but instead I want to see if anyone here has ever broken his record and worn the same piece of clothing (shoes don’t count) for longer than a year.
I haven’t, but I’m not THAT far off. There was a period in my early 20s where, for about six months, I only had one pair of semi-decent pants to wear to work and outside. And then there was the Sergio Valente T-shirt I loved more than any other piece of clothing I owned when I was 10. I wore it so often one summer that my mom deliberately soaked it in bleach so long it started to fall apart as I ran around. I wore it for another week after that.
How about you? Have you ever worn something far longer than you should have? Did anyone notice and call you on it? Or did you–like Karl–get away with it?
