If you happen to be in Sydney, Australia, next weekend, it’s worth checking out “Beyond The Beers” – a one-day event created to provide an environment for men to converse and share, as well as enjoy some cool experiences together such as whiskey tasting, virtual reality and even meditation.
Billed as “conversations with men that break the stereotype”, the event is the brainchild of Mike Campbell. No, not the revered guitarist of Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers fame, but Australia’s Mike Campbell, a man coach of ten years standing, best-selling author of “Unleash Your Alpha” and self-proclaimed geek-meathead hybrid.
“We men love a good yarn,” Mike says. “Even better over a beer. But sadly, for many of us, it never goes beyond this.
“So many men are suffering in silence; too afraid to open up to other guys and have a decent chat that goes beyond the surface banter.”
Mike believes that to become our best – purposeful and driven yet and considerate and supportive, strong and resilient yet empathetic and compassionate – we must learn how to open up and have meaningful conversations.
“We must work on becoming master communicators, with ourselves initially,” says Mike. As a result, he has created “Beyond the Beers” – a new webseries of which the live event is an initial offshoot.
For Mike, the webseries is a place to highlight our innate vulnerability, courage and strength to break the stereotype and provide examples for other men to follow. It will showcase a number of different men, all with their own life stories, who will share their take on manhood through some of life’s tougher conversations.
In the first episode, Mike himself is interviewed by Australian TV personality Scott Tweedie.
Tweedie will also be part of the live Sydney event which includes a keynote address from James Greenshields, who – following 17 years as an Army Officer – now facilitates boys and men with his Young Warrior and Warrior programs.
James will be joined on stage by HeartMath™ mentor and Good Men Project editor, David Packman, as well as Christian Marchegiani, who works with young athletes at Australian Rules Football club, the Sydney Swans.
Tickets to “Beyond the Beers” at the Radisson Hotel in Sydney on Saturday, August 20, are still available and can be purchased here.
