For those of us who are raising sons, it’s important to train them to become strong men – men of purpose. And while the 5 rules below may seem pretty basic, I believe they can go a long way in helping mold the character of your son(s) and make them stronger men in the future.
Rule #1. Being A Man Is More Important Than Talking Like One
This is quite an important rule. Every young man needs to know that it takes more to be a man than just a deeper voice and a few beards on the chin.
Rule #2. It’s Either You Play with Passion or Don’t Play At All
The world we live in demands nothing short of determination – the determination to win and the determination to excel. So, teach your son to be passionate in everything they do. Passion is the driving force behind the world’s greatest innovations; Facebook, Amazon, Microsoft are all fruits of works of passion.
Rule #3. Never Be Too Afraid To Ask Out the Best Looking Girl in the Room
The word “girl” in this case does not just stand for the fairer sex. Rather, it’s all about one’s ability to grab opportunities – the best ones available. Come on, who doesn’t want the best for their little ones?
Rule #4. Give Credit but Always Be Prepared To Take Blame
If you don’t want to raise a son who keeps passing blame (or blaming the system) and refusing to take responsibility even when clearly on the wrong, this rule is for you. Teach them right from a young age to have a selfless approach to things. Let them be prepared to work hard for an honest living, acknowledge other people’s efforts and be ready to own up for their own mistakes.
Rule #5. Lead By Example, Not Explanation
This, once again entails the good habit of taking initiative. Our character is painted by the things we do not what we claim to do. Teach your sons to set a good example in their lives and to appreciate the fact that their actions matter more than their words.
Final Thoughts
Of course, this is by no means an exhaustive list of the rules you need to teach your son. As parents, we all have different styles and approaches of raising our little ones. So, feel free to share your unique rules with me and the GoodMenProject community via the comment box below.
