What makes a man sexy?
While looks and charm help, they’re not everything. A well-rounded personality and having interests outside of your work and what you watch on TV makes you a more interesting person — and interesting is sexy.
What you do with your time defines who you are, and your spare time counts just as much as the time you spend at work. You have to choose how you spend that time wisely.
Practice a sport
Sports make great hobbies for many reasons.
Sports help you stay healthy both physically and mentally. The sport you choose doesn’t have to shape you into Chris Hemsworth to be worth the effort, the simple fact that it helps you keep your body fat under control, regulate your blood pressure and keep your brain healthy already makes it worth it.
Practicing a sport requires commitment and discipline, both sexy traits in a man. If you practice a team sport, meeting new people and forming bonds of friendship is another added bonus.
In short, a man who’s disciplined and cares about his health is sexy.
Practice a martial art
A martial art offers the health benefits of a sport with the added bonus of teaching you how to defend yourself.
Yes, a man who knows how to defend himself — and the people he cares about — is sexy.
Martial arts also reinforce discipline, respect, self-reliance, and restraint. A man who’s been practicing martial art for a few years (and taking it seriously) tends to be a much calmer, self-assured man whose presence never fails to inspire confidence.
You can’t ask for a sexier man than one who controls his impulses, knows his own strength, is respectful of others, and cares for those who are weaker than him. All qualities that the practice of martial arts teaches you.
Play an instrument
You don’t have to be in a band and play gigs in dingy bars every Saturday night to enjoy the sexy effect of playing an instrument.
When you play an instrument and study music, you develop your artistic sensibilities and become more creative. Being able to talk about music and recommend music someone’s never heard makes you interesting, and again, interesting is sexy.
Besides, most women will love to watch you play. Definitely sexy.
Make reading a habit
Reading is sexy because knowledge and culture are sexy.
The more you read, and the larger the variety of subjects and genres you read, the more you’ll have to talk about in conversation. The more you broaden your horizons through reading, the more you’ll attract interesting people who enjoy being around you, discussing ideas, and engaging in thought-provoking debates.
Be careful, though, to keep an open mind, and to not dismiss other’s knowledge or opinion because you don’t believe them to be as well-informed as you are. Intellectual arrogance isn’t sexy.
Be careful with video games
Gaming is a hobby favored by a lot of men, but it’s not one most women appreciate, either for themselves or in a partner. The issue isn’t the man playing video games per se, but the risk of addiction that can lead him to neglect his relationship, overspend, become sleep-deprived, and neglect to take care of himself — all major turn offs for women.
Playing video games doesn’t make you sexy. The fact is that a lot of women still find a guy being too invested in video games a huge turn-off.
As one woman put it, referring to an ex-boyfriend, “He’d choose gaming over me all the time or be too tired to spend time with me when he wasn’t gaming — even for sex.”
You don’t want a hobby that gets in the way of your sex life, do you?
That’s why so many women are reluctant to get into relationships with men who are too much into gaming: because they’re either not interested in keeping up or don’t want to have to compete for their man’s attention with something that can be so addictive. Not to mention they don’t enjoy watching their man waste precious time and money, neglect to take care of himself, and jeopardize his careers, in more extreme cases.
Being a professional gamer is a different reality than letting gaming as a hobby take over your life. Besides, if you’re a professional gamer you might want to pick a few hobbies that take you away from a screen every once in a while.
Forget impressing women, choose your hobbies for yourself
Forget impressing a woman — real or hypothetical — this is your life we’re talking about. Keeping yourself healthy should be your #1 priority, and you should only choose hobbies that don’t get in the way of that.
In the case of video games, playing in moderation is perfectly fine. Playing into the early hours of the morning on the occasional weekend shouldn’t be a big deal. But playing to the point of neglecting your health, becoming chronically sleep-deprived, or even getting into debt is a serious problem. If that’s the case, it might be time to choose another hobby.
Ultimately, you’re only as sexy as your mind and body are healthy — that, in the end, is what picking the right hobbies is all about.
