The wild comedy ‘The Oath’ is coming to DVD
I am a fan of comedies. Sadly most of them I see lately try too hard and end up being pretty bad. Once in a while I see a good comedy, but not as often as I would like. When I heard of The Oath I feared it was going to be awful. Yet it did surprise me in a few ways. I was able to get a review copy and this is what I thought of it.
You can read the plot for The Oath here:
When high-strung Chris (Barinholtz) and his more levelheaded wife Kai (Haddish) learn that citizens are being asked to sign a loyalty oath, their refusal to sign—along with the arrival of two government agents (Cho and Magnussen)—sends an already tense holiday dinner completely off the rails.
This was a pretty good comedy. It had plenty of crazy moments, but they never got too ridiculous. The plot was rather clever and showed how politics can sometimes put a strain on families. This movie got a tad nuts towards the end, but with how bad things were getting it made sense for it to go this way. The ending is a tad abrupt, but overall did a good job bringing this story to a close. I can’t say this movie will be for everyone, but some people are sure to like it.
