You can see an all star cast in ‘Hostiles’ coming to Blu-Ray
I don’t usually watch Westerns. I have nothing against them, just not my kind of film. When I heard of Hostiles, I knew little about it. It had a good cast though, so I decided to check it out. It did surprise me in some ways. I was able to get a review copy and this is what I thought of it.
You can read the plot for Hostiles here:
Set in 1892 and tells the story of a legendary Army captain (Bale) who, after stern resistance, reluctantly agrees to escort a dying Cheyenne war chief (Studi) and his family back to tribal lands. Making the harrowing and perilous journey from Fort Berringer, an isolated Army outpost in New Mexico, to the grasslands of Montana, the former rivals encounter a young widow (Pike), whose family was murdered on the plains. Together, they must join forces to overcome the punishing landscape, hostile Comanche, and ruthless outliers that they encounter along the way.
Hostiles is an okay film, but I did have a few issues with it. I forgot how long it was, and the story does drag on sometimes. The costumes and landscapes are breathtaking though. The cast also does a wonderful job bringing their characters to life. ‘A Journey to the Soul: The Making of Hostiles’ is an amazing 3 part documentary. It goes into impressive detail of how this film was made, and how accuracy was very important to Scott Cooper. He went to great lengths to do this film right, and it shows. You will certainly have a new respect for this film after watching this documentary. To learn more about Hostiles click on this website.
