It also absolutely obliterated the competition at the box office, with an opening weekend gross of $122 million domestically, roughly $106 million more than second-place A Bad Moms Christmas. Like any good Marvel movie, this one is filled to the brim with recognizable stars, including Chris Hemsworth as Thor, Thomas Hiddleston as Loki, Cate Blanchett as Hela, Idris Elba as Heimdall, Mark Ruffalo as the Hulk and Tessa Thompson as Valkyrie (plus appearances by Jeff Goldblum, Benedict Cumberbatch and Anthony Hopkins). As CNN’s Brian Lowry writes, “At a fundamental level, Marvel jams enough high-spirited entertainment into the movie to ensure that it’s worthy of the price of admission.” Rotten Tomatoes gives Thor: Ragnarok a 93 percent critics score and a 90 percent audience score while IMDB pegs the film at 82 percent audience score.
