A remake that is full of non-stop adrenaline pumped action
This was a film that was hard to tell by the trailers if it was going to be any good. Without Mel Gibson, it seemed like Hollywood was taking a big risk making a new Mad Max, especially after such a long time. This is a universe that has a big fan base, and therefore it is hard to make a film that will please these fans. In an era of remakes and new versions of classic movies, the big question is was this a good movie? And is it one that is worth seeing?
The film takes place in a post apocalyptic world, where water is treasured, scarce and good food is hard to come by. It is a terrible wasteland, and the people who live here are pretty much savage animals with little humanity left. Max himself says it best that the only thing you can really do in this world is survive. But in a world where it is hard to say if you will even live to see tomorrow, the rarest thing people have is hope.
This time Mad Max (Tom Hardy) is taken prisoner, and is a man with a lot of demons in his past that constantly haunt him. He is a lone wolf and enjoys keeping to himself rather than being around other people. The world is one big desert that is broken into a number of different territories. One of the strongest is known as the Citadel, a place with a good sized population that is abundant in water and food. It is run by King Immortan Joe who is a powerful leader who really is more of a dictator keeping much for himself and little for anyone else.
Furiousa Charlize Theron) is one of his most trusted soldiers and is sent one day to go to a nearby territory and collect oil for the cars in King Immortan Joe’s vast army. She goes off in one of his biggest rigs, but things take a turn he doesn’t expect. She takes something very important from him, and he will do anything to make her pay for it. Max ends up in this battle by accident. He at first wants no part of it, but eventually decides to help her out in her quest, no matter how futile it may be. From here on the action is pretty much non-stop with huge explosions, fiery battles and scenes that are truly out of this world. It is hard to know what is going on, but this makes for a film that is full of surprises. What did Furiosa steal from King Immortan Joe? Why does he want it back so badly? And why did Furiosa defy King Immortan Joe in the first place? And just what part will Max end up playing in this plan?
The film has a great cast that really bring the action and suspense coming strong. Nicholas Hoult surprised me the most, it seems he plays a bit part but the truth is his character has a bigger part to play than you could ever imagine. I refuse to spoil just how here, to find out what I mean see this movie. The special effects are amazing, and bring some unreal moments to life in a powerful way. There is a scene where some cars go into a dangerous storm and with great special effects audiences get to see no only how dangerous this storm is, but what happens if you chance going into it which is shown best when a car falls into some kind of cyclone and blows up in a fiery blast. The scenery is also wonderful, and it is apparent a lot of care and time was taken to bring these locations to life. The Citadel is amazing and really looks like a paradise among the desolation.
This is a film that is well done, and has a lot of things that many viewers will enjoy. Because of these reasons and more this movie gets 8.5/10. This film lags in a few places and the plot is not always clear, but it is a still a movie that is worth seeing. It is a great remake that should help bring Max and his world to a new generation.
If you are looking for a good action film to see with your buddies, this is the film you will want to see. If you like films full of explosions and astounding special effects, you must run out and watch this movie. It won’t be liked by everyone and is definitely not a movie for kids.
