Sara worked in Baghdad in 2005 as a Program Officer for the Constitutional Support Program, led by the National Democratic Institute for International Affairs, which aimed to support members of the Constitutional Drafting Committee of the Iraqi provisional government. She now lives in the Midwest with her husband and three children where she writes, gardens, and homeschools and only occasionally flinches at lightening storms.
