Back in May on this website, I wrote about how a panic attack can feel like you’re getting choked out in a sleeper hold. This was in reference to a panic attack I had back in April.
This is not a normal thing for me. Like many guys, I have anxiety but I don’t have regular panic attacks. Panic attacks are a different and more dangerous monster altogether.
By the way, I can’t talk about the specific circumstances around that April panic attack. It happened during one of my Accomplishment Coaching coach training weekends. And the first rule about coach training weekends is we do not talk about coach training weekends.
Here’s what I can say about it. I was put in a situation where I didn’t think I could get away with showing how I was feeling. I didn’t think it was appropriate to show that I was feeling anxious and scared.
It wasn’t so much that I was put in a situation that I couldn’t control. I put myself in a situation where I tried to control how I felt.
This is not healthy. The healthy way to handle this is acknowledge how you feel, say hi to it, and let it pass.
I bring this up because of some situations in my current life. I’m dealing with some serious fears and anxiety because of my impending move to the New York area.
These fears were thrown in my face recently. And they really threw me for a loop.
Moving to New York has been something I’ve wanted to do for years. Knowing that I have this opportunity to set off my writing, author, and coaching careers and not taking advantage of it, that’s crazy.
But I have lived most of my life in Alabama. And by most of my life, I mean that there was the nine months I was cooking inside my mother’s womb. And I’m almost forty years old.
The dilemma is juicy, and it’s a little disturbing.
I had this thrown in my face a few days ago and I couldn’t allow myself to actually feel what I was feeling. I wasn’t allowing myself to be scared and worried. And that caused me to lash out at someone who was merely standing for my greatness.
My challenge to you is this:
Don’t deny how you feel. Don’t try to hide or control how you feel.
But more importantly than anything, get support! Get supported to help you get through these scary and anxious times in your life.
This is where I come in.
Let me that support in your life. Let me support you. Let’s create ways together where you can fight through your fears and do big things with your life.

Now, I have one more request for you guys. Two weeks from the date this article posts will be September 16th. I would like to devote this space to a question and answer article. I’d like to make this a regular feature of this space – perhaps once every two to three months.
But to do a Q&A article, I need Qs to A.
If you have any questions about coaching, writing, being a modern man, college football, who I am, whatever: I’d love to answer them.
Within reason, of course.
So, [email protected] will be where you’ll need to send those beautiful Qs, and I’ll give them the As they deserve.
I’ll want your name and where you’re from as well. I won’t use your last name, so don’t worry about that. I’ll even use an alias if you want.
So send me Qs! I’m full of As, you guys…
