hey kids
0:02
welcome to another edition of
0:05
cooking with dad
0:06
and today i’m going to show you how to
0:08
make banana bread so you know
0:12
if you have some over ripe bananas that
0:14
have been sitting around uh
0:17
if you’ve ever baked banana bread first
0:19
thing you think of when you see overly
0:22
ripe bananas is
0:23
ah i gotta make banana bread
0:25
uh so anyway yeah so so make sure you
0:28
hang on to those and make banana bread
0:30
out of them because they’re they’re
0:32
definitely sweeter when they’re overly
0:34
ripe and they’re easy to mash so and
0:36
you’ll see that when i’m making this so
0:38
uh but first i do have a dad joke for
0:40
you so
0:42
did you hear about the bunch of bananas
0:44
that decided to make their own crypto
0:47
yeah they’re gonna call it banana bread
0:50
so anyway let’s get started
0:54
okay so i’ve got kind of prepared the
0:57
ingredients already but we’re just going
0:59
to walk through them real quick i’m also
1:01
going to have this in my uh in the
1:03
description of the video so you can
1:04
reference it there as well but let’s
1:06
just walk through the things that you’re
1:08
going to need
1:10
so you need one cup of sugar i already
1:12
have the one cup of sugar already
1:13
prepared here
1:15
1 3 cup margarine or butter softened
1:18
so
1:19
this stick of butter is a half a cup but
1:22
right on the side it actually shows you
1:24
uh what a third cup looks like so we’ll
1:27
just walk through that just in case
1:28
you’ve never seen that before
1:30
uh and then two eggs and
1:34
half one and a half cups mashed ripe
1:36
bananas so we have our overly ripe
1:39
bananas and the nice thing about overly
1:41
ripe bananas they might not be so great
1:43
to actually eat but they’re more sweet
1:45
uh
1:46
as they as they ripen they they tend to
1:48
be sweeter than ones that aren’t aren’t
1:51
this ripe so
1:53
uh and we need let’s see one third cup
1:56
of water i got that we’re gonna need one
1:59
and two thirds cups flour
2:01
okay there you go and there was a note
2:04
that said not self-rising flour so this
2:08
is just regular flour okay i don’t know
2:10
that you need to need to know that but
2:12
just in case i’m going to throw that in
2:14
there
2:14
and then you’ll need a teaspoon baking
2:17
soda okay and you’ll need one half
2:20
teaspoon salt and you’ll need one
2:23
quarter teaspoon baking powder
2:25
and so what i’ve done is i went ahead
2:27
and combined all those right here
2:29
they’re already here
2:31
because you want to like i’ve talked
2:32
about before you want to make sure with
2:34
powdered
2:35
ingredients especially when you’re
2:37
dealing with baking soda baking powder
2:38
you want to make sure that those get
2:40
mixed in good so we’ll just kind of
2:42
we’ll use a little fork and we’ll stir
2:44
this up then we’ll add it to our other
2:45
dry ingredient flour and we’ll mix that
2:48
up good to make sure it gets all the way
2:50
through because if like i said before if
2:52
you mix this in with your wet
2:53
ingredients and it comes in a clump um
2:56
it’s not going to do what it’s supposed
2:57
to do and then it also
2:59
will taste really bitter in that one
3:01
clump that it’s in so
3:03
okay that’s a a good hint for you and
3:05
then it says one half cup
3:07
chopped nuts but
3:09
i like extra nuts in mine so i went a
3:11
little bit overboard this is this is
3:13
even a little more than a cup the
3:14
ingredient says
3:16
uh
3:17
yeah half a cup but this is my own
3:20
and so i’m adding extra nuts because i
3:22
like that so
3:23
all right so we’ll pull it closer so you
3:25
can take a look you know a few things
3:26
you’ll need too you’ll need a
3:28
loaf pan like this we’ve had this around
3:31
for many many years used for a lot of
3:34
different
3:34
uh
3:35
banana breads over the years and
3:37
zucchini bread and
3:39
a few different other breads we’ve baked
3:40
in there um and then you’ll want to have
3:43
a rubber spatula i’ve talked about
3:45
rubber spatulas before to get the rest
3:47
of the stuff out let me just grab my
3:49
rubber spatula
3:53
this is one that i have it’s actually
3:54
got it’s a christmas one i think i got
3:56
it from my sister all i want for
3:57
christmas is another cookie that’s what
3:59
it says on it but
4:02
it works well for uh for getting the
4:04
rest of the stuff out when you when you
4:05
get down to it okay so let’s get started
4:11
okay so the first thing we’re gonna do
4:12
is we’re gonna preheat our oven to 350.
4:16
so let’s do that
4:22
there we go
4:24
okay and
4:26
now we’re gonna we we’re gonna grease
4:28
the bottom of the of the pan okay i’m
4:31
just gonna use some pam though so
4:34
she
4:35
should have had that ready
4:37
okay and then i just spray the bottom of
4:39
this with a with cooking oil okay
4:46
okay
4:47
set that aside
4:50
all right
4:52
now we’re gonna we need to mix our
4:54
butter and our sugar together okay this
4:57
is a dry ingredient i get it but we’re
4:59
gonna mix these two together we’re gonna
5:00
mix the butter with the sugar kind of
5:02
like
5:03
in my last video on the cookies this
5:05
will kind of clean and get it all to
5:06
clean together but let’s just show you
5:08
this so i need a third cup
5:11
see that
5:13
so i’m just gonna cut it at a third cup
5:16
and then i’m gonna actually soften this
5:19
okay do you see that i just went ahead
5:21
and cut it at a third cup see that okay
5:25
so now i’m just gonna unwrap this and
5:27
i’m gonna put it in my
5:29
microwave
5:31
for
5:31
about 30 seconds
5:37
okay looks like maybe 30 seconds was a
5:39
little bit too long for that it’s kind
5:41
of soupy it’s not hot though um so i
5:44
think it’s fine um
5:46
like i said in a previous video i would
5:48
just let that
5:50
set at room temperature for a while but
5:52
we’re trying to kind of speed this along
5:54
so
5:55
all right so the next thing we’re gonna
5:56
do is we’re gonna
5:58
mix the sugar and the margarine or
6:00
butter okay so here’s our sugar let’s
6:03
just go ahead and put that in here
6:05
and we can use our uh
6:09
our
6:11
spatula
6:14
easy for me to say right so let’s see
6:17
get the rest of it out of there
6:21
these rubber spatulas are ideal whenever
6:24
you’re baking so they don’t cost a whole
6:26
lot too so nice to have them around
6:29
okay
6:35
there you go
6:37
and then now we’ll just go ahead and mix
6:40
mix that up
6:47
okay
6:48
put this aside
6:51
okay so now we’ll just mix that together
6:59
just so everything clings together right
7:08
okay now we’re gonna
7:09
put in the two eggs
7:14
we’ll add those let me set this off to
7:16
the side here for now
7:20
okay
7:35
and if when you’re cracking these you
7:36
notice that you put any shells in here
7:38
you want to pick those out i don’t like
7:40
finding shells in
7:42
and my stuff i don’t know about you
7:44
so
7:46
okay and what you could do is you could
7:48
crack the eggs over here
7:50
and just make sure you don’t put your
7:51
shells in it because it’s probably
7:52
easier to get them out but i didn’t do
7:54
that i was playing without a net there
7:56
but that’s okay
7:58
we’re good here
8:00
okay
8:02
stirring eggs until blended and then add
8:04
bananas and water and then beat for 30
8:07
seconds okay so now
8:08
we just need to
8:10
take these out of here and these can be
8:12
a little bit
8:14
when they’re when they’re mushy they can
8:16
be a little bit gross
8:18
but
8:19
okay not too bad
8:24
see that doesn’t look all that bad
8:26
inside there
8:27
they just don’t come out as easy as a
8:30
regular
8:31
banana okay
8:33
so let me go ahead and do that with the
8:34
rest of them
8:40
[Music]
8:47
now we’re just going to mash those up
8:49
good
8:50
doesn’t take much because they’re pretty
8:51
soft right now right
8:54
okay
8:56
don’t need to over mash them but
8:58
you want to mash them up like that
9:05
okay
9:06
and like i said with a fork like that
9:08
kind of pushing it through that’s how
9:10
you that’s how you can mix things you
9:12
just push it right on through see that
9:22
okay
9:26
you can do it with bananas that aren’t
9:28
as right but like i said they’re sweeter
9:30
when they’re over ripe like that and
9:32
plus it’s way easier to to do this to
9:35
them right much easier okay so we’re
9:37
gonna add the bananas
9:49
okay
9:51
that’s actually keep that
10:04
looks like our oven’s ready to go
10:08
okay
10:09
doing that and then we’re gonna add the
10:11
water
10:13
third cup of water
10:21
i think i’ve done it before where i
10:22
didn’t even add the water and i think it
10:23
was fine
10:31
okay so now
10:33
we’re gonna make sure this stuff is all
10:35
mixed up right our different
10:37
baking soda baking powder
10:41
and salt
10:42
okay and now we’re gonna mix that in
10:44
here
10:49
okay
10:51
and
10:54
do that and make sure that’s mixed good
10:57
right like we said you can’t emphasize
10:59
that enough
11:01
mix that good
11:15
okay
11:16
we’re getting close now let’s go ahead
11:18
and just mix that up good
11:26
you have to be careful so it doesn’t
11:27
spill out of your bowl right
11:35
okay
11:41
looking good
11:42
that’s exactly what it’s supposed to
11:44
look like like that
11:45
okay
11:48
i can really smell the bananas smells so
11:51
good
11:52
okay
11:53
now we’re gonna add our nuts to it
11:58
again walnuts is
12:00
pretty good for any a lot of
12:02
applications like this so
12:05
there we go
12:10
okay
12:14
okay so we’re just about there
12:16
using my
12:19
trusty rubber spatula you’ll be able to
12:22
get everything out of here and here we
12:24
go
12:30
i usually make two of these at a time it
12:32
all depends on how many bananas you have
12:34
you know we could just use if we had six
12:36
bananas we could have made
12:38
two
12:40
three and three right
12:42
but
12:43
i only had i actually had five bananas
12:46
so i’m just gonna make one
12:51
there you go
12:55
that’s all there is to it and
12:59
i’m just gonna throw that in the oven
13:02
for
13:04
55 to 60 minutes so i’m just gonna go
13:06
ahead and put it in for 55 minutes and
13:08
we’ll see what it looks like
13:12
okay so like i’ve mentioned before and i
13:14
just can’t emphasize it enough uh so 55
13:18
minutes that’s how long we’ve got
13:20
perfect time to clean up your kitchen go
13:22
ahead and just put everything away and
13:24
then all we got to do we’re just going
13:25
to pull that thing out of the oven and
13:28
everything’s already clean
13:29
it needs to sit for a little bit
13:32
i think you want to let it you know cool
13:34
completely
13:35
it smells good when it first comes out
13:37
so you’re tempted to want to you know uh
13:40
go ahead and dive in but it really needs
13:42
to kind of set so you want to let it
13:44
cool for a time so we’ve got a lot of
13:46
time before we can actually eat that
13:48
thing so um
13:50
uh yeah so now would be a great time to
13:52
just go ahead and clean your kitchen up
13:54
because then when you’re done you’re
13:56
you’re really done
13:58
we’ve got about 10 seconds left we’re
14:01
gonna go ahead and pull this out of here
14:03
and then you just test it with uh with a
14:06
toothpick to see
14:07
see what that looks like i gotta go find
14:09
a toothpick so here we go one
14:11
second
14:13
okay
14:15
ooh that looks so good look at that
14:18
nice
14:20
okay
14:21
turn
14:22
off the timer i just want to turn off
14:24
the timer not the oven just because i
14:26
want to check this first
14:29
all right we’re gonna go ahead and put a
14:30
toothpick in it
14:34
and it came out clean so it’s good if
14:37
you put that toothpick in there
14:39
and it came out and it had stuff on it
14:42
uh you probably would need to let it
14:44
cook a little bit longer oh actually you
14:46
know what
14:47
that
14:48
over here so when i was doing this it
14:49
was kind of scraping it off i’m gonna go
14:51
ahead and throw this back in
14:52
okay because you can see it’s still kind
14:54
of gooey in the center here
14:59
okay i went another 10 minutes and now
15:01
we’re gonna go ahead and check this
15:02
again here
15:05
yeah see that came out clean
15:07
so it’s good so now we we’re gonna let
15:10
this set here for five minutes
15:12
and then we’ll kind of work it out and
15:13
then just pop it out and let it set on
15:15
this
15:16
board by itself without the pan
15:20
and then probably for about an hour let
15:22
it completely cool and then it’s good to
15:24
go
15:26
okay so now we’re just going to work our
15:28
way around it
15:31
and the bot we we sprayed the bottom
15:33
with pam remember that
15:36
so you should just be able to pop it out
15:39
once we
15:41
once we work it around the edges
15:43
been sitting here for about five minutes
15:45
so the pan’s still
15:47
kind of hot
15:50
should be good now though
15:53
okay
15:55
let’s see here
16:06
there we go looking good
16:10
okay
16:11
kind of warm
16:13
okay
16:14
now just let that sit for about an hour
16:16
and then we’ll be able to slice it just
16:18
slice it about you know however thick
16:20
you want it a lot of times i’ve seen
16:21
them pretty thick like if you go to a
16:23
coffee shop they’ll give you a big old
16:26
slice like that
16:27
but that’ll cost you like three bucks
16:29
right so this thing’s
16:32
anyway uh there you go
16:35
okay so that’s all there is to making
16:37
banana bread zucchini bread’s very
16:39
similar but maybe we’ll do that at some
16:41
point but that’s how you make banana
16:43
bread
16:44
uh i hope you enjoy this i hope it was
16:46
uh fairly simple for you so that you can
16:49
make it for yourself if you like banana
16:51
bread and if you have some
16:53
uh overripe bananas sitting around you
16:56
may as well give it a shot so
16:58
all right so thanks for watching and god
17:01
bless you
