Believe it or not, no one is an Island. We have been greatly affected by those who have gone far ahead of us in any endeavor. I know I have. Right from my teen years, I’ve always tried to follow the footsteps of my idols simply because I learnt that doing what they did will make me achieve greater feats.
I am not overly surprised by what I have achieved so far in life. Here are some of the quotes that have guided me and changed my life for good:
Business Management
“Successful Investing takes time, discipline and patience. No matter how great the talent or effort, some things just take time: You can’t produce a baby in one month by getting nine women pregnant.” — Warren Buffett, CEO and Investor.
“In a world that’s changing really quickly, the only strategy that is guaranteed to fail is not taking risks.” — Mark Zukerberg, CEO of Facebook.
“I literally coded Facebook in my dorm room and launched it from my dorm room. I rented a server for $85 a month, and I funded it by putting an ad on the site, and we’ve funded ever since by putting ads on the site.” — Mark Zukerberg.
These great people played a critical role in my quest to be a successful entrepreneur. Starting a business is not usually easy. The fear of succeeding was a major stumbling block to me. But by studying the life of Buffett and Zukerberg, I am a successful entrepreneur. Starting small and aiming global as well as the patience to nurture a business are great lessons I can’t forget.
Get Around the Right People
“It’s better to hang out with people better than you. Pick out associates whose behavior is better than yours and you’ll drift in that direction. — Warren Buffett.
I am what I am today is significantly attributed to relationships. I was mindful of the people I follow because I had prior knowledge that one is a product of the kind of friends he/she keeps. Hang out with 4 millionaires and you’ll be the 5th millionaire and vice versa. It is as simple as this. This consciousness has really helped me.
One of the most important decisions we make in life is who we choose to be around. In fact, there is an old proverb that reads, “Show me your friends and I’ll tell you who you are.” Quite often we become like the people we’re around. Based on that, we must be cautious about whom we surround ourselves with because of the short- and long-term implications.
Financial Discipline
“In reading the lives of great men, I found that the first victory they won was over themselves. Self-discipline with all of them came first.” — Harry S Truman, 33rd U.S. President.
“Failure to adequately manage the resources you have today will certainly lead to penury. Savings should be a habit to serious minded individuals who want to make the world a better place for everyone. Spend wisely. — Vimal Lalani, CEO of Deal on the Web
“The speed of your success is limited only by your dedication and what you’re willing to sacrifice” — Nathan W. Morris, Personal Finance Expert
Most people are the victim of their own poor money management. I can’t deny the fact that I was once in such category until I discovered that it’s possible to discipline my spending habit. Believe me, it’s not easy to achieve this but I had to. Thanks to my idols, most of my investments today wouldn’t have been possible.
Thinking Humanity
“If you’re in the luckiest 1% of humanity, you owe it to the rest of humanity to think about the other 99%.” — Warren Buffett.
“Our society has an obligation to invest now to improve the lives of all those coming into this world, not just those already here.” — Mark Zukerberg, CEO of Facebook
“Is the rich world aware of how four billion of the six billion live? If we were aware, we would want to help out; we’d want to get involved.” — Bill Gates, Founder of Microsoft
I have always admired the gesture of successful entrepreneurs when they doll out billions of dollars for the sake of saving humanity. In my little capacity, I have toched lives by my finances and intellect. I wasn’t born with this character, I learnt it and I am glad I am positively touching lives within my resources.
