Open your computer. Turn on the TV. Take a look at the news. What do you find? Tragedy. Despair. A whole lot of “the world is doomed.” We are inundated with negative news. If you’re anything like me, you take a look at that “news” and you just feel depressed. There are so many terrible, heartbreaking, and enraging things going on in the world out there. Absolutely. And sometimes it feels like we cannot avoid those things. It can all get incredibly overwhelming.
But guess what? There is good news out there. I promise. And I’m here to bring that to you.
I used to be a TV news reporter in small towns in Texas. It was my lifelong dream, and I couldn’t wait to dive in directly after college. But I quickly – much more quickly than I had imagined – became disillusioned with that dream. I loved engaging with people and telling their stories. But the one constant? The focus was almost always on the negative. I simply could not commit my life to a full-time focus on despair. So I quit! And I decided to focus on telling positive stories around the world. I started a production company that creates stories for social impact, and I can tell you that I never looked back. I shifted the focus and retrained my mind to see the good that had always been there. When we begin to see all the inspiration that’s present around us, we can begin to reframe our ideas of the world. We can begin to see that it’s not all bad news. The good news was always there – we just needed to open our eyes to it.
Over the last decade, I’ve used documentary storytelling to bring people positive content – to educate, inform, and spur people to action. And now, I bring you The Good News. A throwback to my news days with a full-time focus on GOOD. Take a look at The Good News Broadcast for a news show that’s certain to make you smile.
Yes, there’s bad news. Yes, we need to be informed. But the question I always ask is, “How does it serve us to focus only on the negative?” There are amazing stories all over the world – stories of inspiring people, of beautiful resilience, and of powerful change. We cannot forget that those stories and those people do exist, and that they are changing the narrative in their corner of the world, in big and small ways. We absolutely need more positive news in our lives. We need to be uplifted. We need to remember that beyond all the despair, there is good. I’ve got you.
