When your heart is broken

There is not a lot of comfort

Even if someone offers

Everything you thought you knew

Has been destroyed and there is only you

No one to reflect with

No one to project on

No one to distract you from yourself

So many Supposed To Be’s crumble

Versions of yourself you thought were authentic

Are not who you are now

So many expectations are left in pieces

Versions of life you thought were coming in

Are not today at all

And so there is you

You could fill in the gap with something new

But in the end, this will just keep coming

The inevitable mirror where you finally see yourself

And realize it is better to be here

Authenticity is enormous pain

It destroys burdens that are not yours

But that have become far too familiar

It takes away all you were once certain about

And now you are surrounded by mysteries

But what you don’t know you can now discover

And what you don’t label you can go well beyond

There are no more measurements

…You used to be this small

You used to be this ignorant

You used to fit this compartment…

You used to nothing more

There is only the present moment

And you are who defines you now

Broken hearts can be a broken seed

Tired of living small

You can grow now

Authentic love and kindness

No matter what has been done to you

You’ve got this.
