The career of Lewis “Scooter” Libby, one of former Vice-President Dick Cheney’s top aides during the Bush Administration, fell apart after he was indicted in the investigation of a leak blowing a Central Intelligence Agency officer’s cover. Libby was convicted of perjury and obstruction of justice, served 30 months in prison, and had his law license suspended until 2016. But on Friday, President Donald Trump announced that he had pardoned Libby, striking his conviction from the record. According to CNN’s Chris Cillizza, it’s part of Trump’s plan to send a message to Special Counsel Robert Mueller. Libby’s allies have long argued that Special Counsel Patrick Fitzgerald went too far in the investigation of Libby. Pardoning Libby might be Trump’s way of telling Mueller, and anyone who thinks the Russia probe is going well, how this movie might end. Either way, social media users aren’t pleased with the pardon, giving it 73 percent negative sentiments. –Hugo Guzman
