In the blink of an eye, Omarosa Manigault Newman – a duplicitous villain with a famously caustic tongue who has relentlessly peddled bullshit to the American people – has been cast as a victim who now deserves the nation’s sympathy. It’s a recent plot turn that as already worn out its welcome, with me at least.
The former White House aide was called “that dog” by U.S. President Donald J. Trump after she revealed that she’s heard years-old audio of him saying the N-word.
“I had heard for two-years that it existed and once I heard it for myself, it was confirmed, what I feared the most, that Donald Trump is a con and has been masquerading as someone who is actually open to engaging with diverse communities. But when he talks that way… the way he did on this tape… it confirmed that he is truly a racist,” she told Meet the Press’ Mr. Chuck Todd on Sunday.
Mrs. Manigault Newman, who has authored a new book entitled ‘Unhinged: An Insider’s Account of the Trump White House,’ also released a recording of her being fired by Chief of Staff John Kelly in the Situation Room, audio which was made unbeknownst to the General.
On Tuesday, Mr. Trump on Twitter wrote:
“When you give a crazed, crying lowlife a break, and give her a job at the White House, I guess it just didn’t work out. Good work by General Kelly for quickly firing that dog.”
That tweet was seized upon by individuals and organizations who aimed to further display the president’s use of dehumanizing language, particularly when referring to women and people of color. For example, organizers of the Women’s March on Tuesday issued a call to action, asking “male and male-identified allies” to condemn Mr. Trump’s remarks and behavior and to reject toxic masculinity.
The organization then compared Mrs. Manigault Newman –who worked as the Director of African-American Outreach during the 2016 presidential campaign – with black women like ESPN’s Jemele Hill, who once called the president a white supremacist; Rep. Maxine Waters, who has been calling for Mr. Trump’s impeachment; and Rep. Frederica Wilson of Florida, who revealed damning details about the commander-in-chief’s call to an Army widow.
Mrs. Manigault Newman can’t be compared to righteous black women who’ve resisted the president and his agenda, because,
until her firing, she loyally and shamelessly defended and promoted said agenda. She was part of the problem and only now, due to branding opportunities and unresolved bitterness, is the former Apprentice contestant, who admitted to being complicit in deceiving the nation, speaking out against a clearly undignified head-of-state.
Getting more earned media than she could’ve ever hoped for due to the tell-all which was released yesterday, Mrs. Manigault Newman is not a victim and she surely isn’t part of the resistance. Rather, she’s a savvy opportunist who is further deceiving the American people via her faux shock at the corruption and dysfunction of the Trump White House. The now ubiquitous author knew what she was signing up for and the alliance filled her with glee.
A strong woman, Mrs. Manigault Newman desires not our sympathy, only our attention. And for the most part, she’s got it. The nation is speaking her name and that of her literary effort.
I imagine the only thing she could hope for now, is that Mr. Trump publicly calls her the N-word, because it’ll certainly be good for the business of Omarosa.
