I’ve been thinking about my circle of influence a lot lately.
Because I think it’s stated all over again by people on the internet or podcasts or self-help guru’s or whatever that you should always take the control back. You should up and get yourself out of any situation and change the playing field.
Instead of lingering around, you take action. Or, as I often read, ACTION. MASSIVE ACTION.
Awesome. Action.
Thing is, life is a lot more nuanced than this. Not all of us have our own businesses. We literally have to rely on time and patience to get a job to be able to afford to eat. To just survive every day.
There is, actually, something called going too far. You can get disqualified for a job by calling the office every day 12 times a day. You can get ghosted by someone you went on a date with for texting them every hour on the hour.
I’ve never been that level of crazy (thank god).
But I also think that my personal power comes from the things that are within my control. And when I’m feeling like the winds of fate are up to everyone else (how I’m feeling right now, honestly), I go back to the little things I can do. How I can strengthen myself today. How I can work better. Breathe easier. Sleep.
God knows I can’t fucking sleep correctly, so that’s something to work on. And I think all of those little things — when they get my focus, I feel like a weight is lifted. Because I really don’t have control of a lot of the big things. I just can’t.
Taking the small steps, though? That shit feels good. It feels…
It feels like power.
