For Ryan Mcrae, “being a man isn’t about doing what they say, it’s about doing what you want.”
I spent a year in Afghanistan as a contractor for a couple of reasons; one reason I went was to try and “prove myself” as a man. I was the guy who won the Dungeons and Dragons champions, skipped recess to read comic books and couldn’t catch a ball if it had Elmer’s glue on it.
When someone offered me a year contract in Afghanistan, everyone, and I mean everyone said I couldn’t do it. So I went. From that journey and a deep reflection about what it is to be a man, I wanted a product that reflected this journey: the MAN card.
We’ve all heard the joke: “Oh, you can’t tie a tie? Where’s your MAN card?” It’s like this “trump” that people play to demean us who don’t have certain manly traits. (Notice we don’t say, “Oh, you treated her like crap? Where’s your MAN card?”
I’m putting a stop to it.
The MAN card on Kickstarter gives license for a man to do whatever he likes: watch Downton Abbey, take a ballroom dance class or despise mowing the lawn.
I believe this product can help men have a good laugh at themselves while being assured everyday that they can like whatever they want.
Because being a man isn’t about doing what they say, it’s about doing what you want.
