A simple search on Google or Pinterest will return thousands of results for cliche inspirational quotes about chasing your dreams. At this point, we all know that it’s easier to give up at a certain point, rather than continue the hard uphill battle of achieving big life dreams. But here’s the thing: they’re all cliche for a reason. They’re true.
I’m finally within days of achieving a goal I set for myself when I was young. For as long as I can remember, I wanted to write a book. I spent years talking about how much I wanted to write a book. Years of talking without actually doing anything tangible to achieve it.
Because once I took that first tangible step, there was no going back. I either forged forward and completed the goal, or I would fail. I talked about it so much, I’m positive I thoroughly annoyed my husband. I know I annoyed myself.
That is, until one day when I finally took the first step. I started writing my book. And it was everything I thought it would be, and nothing like I expected. It was impossibly difficult and exceedingly easy. Life got in the way, multiple times. I started with one story and completely changed it countless times.
Almost a decade later, it’s finally a finished product. One that I’m so incredibly proud of. I took the time to learn how to do it and to make sure it was something I could be proud of. I set it aside multiple times over the years, but I never gave up on it.
Sometimes we just need to prove to ourselves we can do it. We need to give ourselves the opportunity to exceed our own expectations. Set small goals on the way to the big goal. Celebrate every success, regardless of how small.
