The trilobite-inspired lensing system now being mimicked by optical scientists is an all–too-infrequent example of something I’d love to see engineers take more interest in. Mother Nature has had ( if I may paraphrase my favorite biologist, Dr. Steve Jakobi at SUNY Alfred) millions of years to shake out design bugs for just about everything. Why not take the hint ?
