Being a great parent sometimes means thinking outside of the box. Many times, that could mean a dad packing up the entire family during the holidays and heading off on a tropical vacation. One thing that it’s important to remember when getting ready to head off on vacation is that you want to pack what you need for your time of fun in the sun. After all, you are leaving the snow and the cold of the winter season behind, so, of course, you want to be prepared. With that in mind, read on below for a few of the top must-have items to pack for your vacation in the tropics.
Paddle/Surfboards
Whether you are surfing the waves or just love the feel of the board beneath your feet, a racing SUP (stand up paddleboard) is something you want to pack before anything else on your tropical vacation list. You can spend hours out on the water with these boards and have your family right along with you. Make sure you pack for the tropics with one, or maybe more of these paddleboards in tow.
A Little Black Dress
Whether it’s sleeveless for those balmy nights or has a little bit of a sleeve to ward off a tiny chill, a plus size LBD, little black dress, is a must-have for any woman on vacation. The great thing about these, as any woman can tell you, is that they can be casual enough to wear at the pier on the beach or elegant enough to wear to a party in a fancy restaurant instead. If your wife doesn’t already have one, consider getting her one as part of her holiday gift. She’s sure to appreciate the gesture.
Sunglasses/Sunscreen
Make sure that you pack your sunglasses and sunscreen for the entire family beforehand, so you don’t burn or get a headache in the tropical sun. Remember, the humidity, heat, and sun will probably be different than what you’re used too, so make sure that you have a sunscreen that is equipped to handle the tropical climate. The last thing you want is to spend your holiday in the hotel room burnt to a crisp with a headache to boot.
Passport and Necessary Papers
Make sure that you pack your passport, ID, necessary papers, credit cards, and any traveler’s checks in a spot where you are the only one who knows where they are and keep them with you at all times. It is no fun to be stuck in a tropical paradise without the documentation and money you need.
Appropriate Clothing
It’s also important to check the weather forecast for the tropical area, you are going to be visiting. Making sure that you have the appropriate clothing, whether it’s swimsuits for the beach or a light sweater for an unexpected rainy day will save you from having to head to the store in town to buy clothes you should have bought with you, to begin with.
These are just a few of the top items you should pack when you are vacationing in the tropics over the holidays. Happy vacationing everyone!
