You have two
job offers.
The one you choose
will be your only job
until the day you retire.
The first one is for the job of your dreams. So much so it will hardly feel like work. Everyday you’ll come into work singing and every night you’ll stay a little bit later than you have to because you don’t want to leave. You will love all of your co-workers and the job will come with just the right degree of public recognition–enough to earn you the respect of people you don’t know, but not enough to ever feel like a burden. But as much as you love it, the job will never come before your private life or get in the way of your family–the balance will always be ideal.
The starting salary for this job is $25,000/year. At best, you will be earning double that amount by the time you retire. There will never be any benefits or retirement plan.
The second job offer is less a dream and more of a nightmare. It’s always going to feel like work. Every time your alarm rings in the morning you are filled with a sense of terror and dread. You will hate your co-workers even more than they hate you. The job will turn your hair prematurely grey and produced other stress-related health issues. You will be seen by the public as a representative of everything that is wrong with the business world. You will have no time for your family or to do anything else but focus on your career.
The starting salary for this job is $250,000/year. This amount is going to increase by at least 50% every year and will include stock options and benefits that will make you a millionaire many times over.
