Are you done with
your holiday shopping?
Or have you
not even started it yet?
Some people are good at planning ahead and have all of their holiday gifts purchased months in advance of the actual deadline. But the rest of us who take part in these shenanigans–for reasons that range from the procrastinatory to the financial–find ourselves racing around looking for same things everyone else is looking for with just a few weeks or days before we have to hand them over.
It’s a stressful time, made worse by the swarms of equally stressed and frustrated people in the malls and box stores where we search for those items that successfully send the message, “I am glad you exist and I know enough about you to purchase a product you’ll appreciate.”
Thankfully, I managed to avoid this in 2013. My one trip to a Toys R Us was made during the first major cold snap in my hometown, which meant it was deserted, while I managed to find nearly everything else I needed online. So I’m ready.
Are you?
My wife is great at buying things throughout the year, so some of the shopping is done. We don’t stress over it any more. The only problem is that she does forget where she puts the gifts. So on Christmas Eve, we start the “hunt.”
I’m never sure if being one of those anal-retentive weirdos who has their Christmas shopping done before Halloween is brag or cringe-worthy.
I just assume they find other things to stress about while we’re out killing each other for dolls.

NO! In the past I’ve always been one of those “plan ahead” people, but between having a baby at the end of August, my partner getting laid off and then starting a new job, and LIFE, I will admit I HAVEN’T EVEN STARTED YET!
This weekend is going to suck…
Merry Christmas 🙂
