It’s time we all start being mosquitos.
Imagine being a teenager in 2018, reading the news topics online and thinking about the world they are growing up in. Every day there are shootings, suicides, and every day the news repeats the same stories with just new locations. The one consistency that is often overlooked in the news are the people who do something, however little, about it.
Whether you are Pro-choice or Pro-life, we all have the same amount of time to reach out and volunteer to help children and teens. We can show them that there are adults that care about them and that their lives are important to us.
Pro-gun and anti-gun people all have the same hands that could instead be better used to pick up trash, even in their own neighborhood, and by doing so showing the community that we are undivided.
Republicans and Democrats both have loud and big enough voices to speak up for those who cannot. If you don’t like something, run for office. Go to all of the voting opportunities. Go to your towns meetings and speak up on the topics that affect you and the families in your hometown. Repeadiatly arguing with strangers, friends, and family is no way to initiate change. It is, however, a great way to no longer be invited out for coffee.
People often feel like they are too small to change anything on their own. As one of my favorite people said, “if you think you are too small to make a difference, try sleeping with a mosquito.”-Dalai Lama XIV.
Your actions will always far outway the things that you say. So challenge yourself to be a mosquito and teach your children and community the same.
