“You should be ashamed of yourself.” How many times did you hear that, growing up? Was it true? Are there things we SHOULD be ashamed of?
As I get older, I find I am more accepting of me and that means I don’t feel ashamed for (most of ) the things I once did. I think it’s a combination of finally becoming friends with myself and of getting over caring about what you think of me.
What has freed you from shame? Courage to live a more authentic life? Some life event that brought things into a different perspective? Was another person instrumental in making you realize you have nothing to be ashamed of?
How do you feel now about those things you once found shameful? Do you embrace them or just accept them? Have you come to love those pieces of you?
Do other people try to make you feel ashamed? How do you react when other people do that? Is it a teachable moment or do you just have to walk away?
Do you have relapses where you suddenly feel ashamed for something you thought you’d come to terms with? What causes these? How do you handle them?
How does shame affect men? Does it prevent them from doing things like asking for help or displaying emotions?

The Good Men Project is different from most media companies. We are a “participatory media company”—which means we don’t just have content you read and share and comment on but it means we have multiple ways you can actively be a part of the conversation. As you become a deeper part of the conversation (Which really is “The Conversation No One Else is Having), you will learn all of the ways we support our Writer’s Community—community FB groups, weekly conference calls, classes in writing, editing platform building and more.
