This film will have you wondering what is going down right to the final moments
Films like this do come out every once in a while. The type of movie that has a deeper message that not everyone will understand once it is over. Sicario continues this noble tradition. Do not confuse this movie with the version that came out in 1995, this one is quite different. In Mexico Sicario means hit man and as confusing at that may seem at the start of the picture trust this writer there is a reason this is said that people may only understand if they pay close attention to what is happening.
Kate Macer (Emily Blunt) is a hard working CIA agent who mainly deals with kidnapping cases. On such a case her team discovers something that they never expected to find. There is a gruesome site at a house they raided with horrors that would churn anyone’s stomach. By the end of the raid two police officers end up dead and Kate is sure she is going to lose her job. When she gets called in to talk to her superiors she is sure her career is over but she is wrong.
She has a chance to work a case with Matt Graver (Josh Brolin) that he promises will help her find those responsible for what happened that day. She gladly volunteers and is heading straight to Mexico to apprehend someone who can get them answers. Along the way she meets Alejandro Gillick (Benicio Del Toro) a mysterious man who doesn’t talk about himself much. But right away Kate realizes there is something off with their methods and as things progress this feeling only intensifies. Why was she picked for such a strange case? What is her purpose there? What are these men really trying to accomplish here? And will she be the same person once it is finished?
This movie is good but most of it is quite slow. This is no fault to the cast it is just the way the story is meant to be told. As irritating as this may get sometimes it is best to ride it out for once the final act comes up it is worth the wait and everything will make sense. The film is intense sometimes and is sure to surprise even the most seasoned theatergoers. The message is a tough one but the truth hurts sometimes and once this movie is done you will see what this writer means. The sets are great and do an amazing job bringing the world of drug lords out of the shadows. Kids will want to miss this one but adults will enjoy it and only they can appreciate what it is trying to say here.
The film gets 6/10. It is not the worst film to come out but it is not the greatest one either. Too often it will only confuse people and it is not for everyone. There is a lot of violence and therefore those who don’t enjoy such things will do themselves a favor by seeing something else. But those who want to see a good crime thriller or just a simple movie with some deep underlying messages will really like this movie.
If you are a fan of any of these stars you will want to see this movie. If you are looking for a good thriller to see with friends this is the film to watch. It is not a family film but there and only rally caters to a few crowds of people but those people will not want to miss this one. This film comes out this Friday to a theater near you.
