Meghan Laslocky, author of the “The Little Book of Heart Break,” compares monogamous human marriage to sexual rituals of the animal kingdom.
For Western Society monogamous marriages based on mutual love have been the ideal sexual relationship since at least the Enlightenment period, but for Meghan Laslocky, it is not as “natural” as we might think. Since we humans are technically animals, it makes scene to turn to the animal kingdom to think about our sexual practices. Laslocky says,
The evidence shows that monogamy is a rarity among mammals. Only 3% to 5% of all the mammal species on Earth “practice any form of monogamy.” In fact, no mammal species has been proven to be truly monogamous.

How about– “, at least in theory, monogamous coupling is the norm in the majority of the world, presently & historically….this holds especially true for societies that discovered the wheel, agriculture, the color blue and written language, ie civilizations that prospered.
We get past that and then we can discuss sperm competition and how paying lip service to monogamy multiple sex partners is a Darwinian advantage to women….
