Dave Anderson in the CTO and Director of Rescue at TheHopeLine.com, which is a call center that receives calls (and online chats) from teens and young adults in need of emotional support; many of these teens are contemplating suicide. In this interview, Dave talks about the challenges around training staff and volunteers to do the demanding job of answering calls and chats from teens in need support, and touches on the technical aspects of their operation that helps them do their job better.
Dave also explains how they work with a number of regional partners, and the process they go through to determine the best way to help each individual, including the subtle difference between empathy and sympathy.
