Have you come to a time in your life where you need your own little haven to relax? A place to get away from the family for just a little? Or a room in which you can entertain the boys, watch a football game in peace or even just wind down in a comfy armchair with your favourite book?
If you answered ‘yes’ to any of the above questions you may have found yourself in need of a man cave, a room in the house restricted for your own personal use. In the below list, I share some tips on how to create the perfect man cave.
Have an appropriate room. — If you have a room in the house that is no longer being used, such as a child’s room that has moved out of the house or even an unused basement or garage, you can use this to your advantage by turning it into a man cave. If you don’t have an open room available, you may need to look at creating one by adding onto your home or building a backyard shed.
Comfort, Comfort, Comfort! — A great man den should be a comfortable and welcoming spot to kick back in. When furnishing your man den, make sure you choose comfy furniture and provide enough seating so that you can invite your friends over if you so wish. A good sound system will also add to the comfort factor as great sound can really put you at ease. Insulating a man den is a good idea if you’d like to keep it warm and relatively soundproof.
Decorate it to your own taste. — Stick to things you love and enjoy, you don’t have to meet typical man cave ideals. If you enjoy painting, then get an easel and a few canvases and hang paintings that inspire you on the walls. If have an affinity with the 60s, decorate in a 60s themed style. There are no rules that say a man cave must just be about football and beer. You’ll be much happier in your man cave if the space resonates with you as a person.
Have a range of things to do. — Installing a TV is a great way to ensure you’ll always have something to keep you occupied, but why not create a ‘work out’ corner, bring in an arcade game or even a dartboard. Affordable and high-quality dartboards can be bought at office dartboard. Dartboards are great because it can be practiced alone or played with your friends. Having games like poker, rummy or board games at hand can be a good idea for entertaining.
Create a bar. — A small bar and bar fridge is always great for entertaining for friends or even if you just want to relax with a beverage by yourself. Having a bar in your man cave will save you from running in and out of the main kitchen, thus disturbing your treasured man cave time.
Whatever man cave you decide to go with, make sure you are doing it for the right reasons. Creating a man cave can be a lot of fun and bring much peace and joy to your life, especially once it’s finished!
