The Perseid meteor showers are active from now through Aug. 24, producing its peak rate of meteors around 13 August.
Dusk in August – by Don Mathis
A breeze blows in from the south
but the concrete keeps emitting heat
all the way to eleven p.m.
At midnight, the stars shine
their crystal luminescence
and it just feels cooler.
At one, the meteors begin,
each one takes my breath
as it passes by.
The moon dims.
The clouds roll.
You can almost hear the meteors pass.
The wine is good.
The friends are together.
Perseids, I love you.
That’s the way it is;
Dusk in August.

The Perseid meteor shower peaks in August. Here’s how to see it:
Circumstances this year will be nearly ideal for watching the annual Perseid meteor shower at its predicted maximum late on the night of Aug. 12-13. Many families on August vacations at dark, country sites discover these meteors on their own, and late-summer campers often pull their sleeping bags out of their tents to enjoy this “Old Faithful” shower.
