I met Seeta in the ‘Bitches for Hillary’ Facebook Group during the time leading up to the election. She and Ellen do a great balanced radio show that is simulcast on multiple stations in Florida.
The focus of our discussion during this radio spot was on the current conflict and polarization we are experiencing in our nation and how we can bridge the divide and heal as a nation. It all begins with a conversation:
“Our country is at a point where…there is a lot of negativity. We need to heal after the elections. We need to come together and see what we can do . . .”
“And about how we deal with each other when we don’t agree instead of just resorting to name calling, and I don’t know where our compassion has gone for each other, just to be able to talk about issues and move forward with those issues where there are different viewpoints . . .”
“The Good Men Project is a place for conversation and community and for talking about real issues . . . including the complex political situation that informs everything, issues like racism and sexism and the things we see and experience every day, how we process it and what we do about it.
And one of the things we are doing . . . is actually having people come together and building community . . . I very strongly believe that one of the ways [we can heal] is by actually coming together and having conversations with people . . . That is a place where you see actual change. We live in a complex world and we do crave simple solutions, but sometimes hurling a meme at someone on a Facebook page and feeling smug and snarky about yourself doesn’t really move anything anywhere . . . It’s all about both sides having real conversations and being open to that . . . Especially now, no matter which side you were on in the most recent election, so many people are disenchanted, and showing people that you can have a voice and come together and drive change is really important.”
