Some things are better left unsaid. Other times, it is just the opposite. How do you know when you should bring something up or keep your mouth closed? Today, I am exploring the concept of the “regret quotient.” The regret quotient is very important to take into consideration when we think about bringing something up or holding something back, when it comes to something that is important in any type of relationship.
Do I need to get this off my chest? Do I need to speak my truth? Have I already made my truth clear? Am I needing to make myself clearer or am I just arguing at this point? Have I gotten closure or have I not? When we are wanting to speak our truth, we want to make ourselves as clear as possible. If we don’t make our point of view clear for the other person, we may feel as though they will misinterpret us and not learn our truth. In this case, we want to keep calm and try and speak to them so they understand. When we hold back and not speak our truth we may feel as though we have acquiesced or allowed others to take advantage or walk over us.
Regret is something that none of us want to feel. Regret stays with us for a length of time, it is better to properly express ourselves than to hold onto our truth and feel regret for the outcome that didn’t work in our favor.
