It’s so easy to disconnect, isn’t it? I mean, disconnecting has become a normal aspect of the human experience now. With so much at our disposal; phones, televisions, computers, food, snacks, and whatever it is that we love to indulge in — Artificial Intelligence, instagram, tobacco, eating out, cars — the true aspect of “self” is as far away as the moon. 🌙
In some ways, I think our ancestors understood themselves more. They were connected to themselves in terms of purpose and simplicity. They were also know to be surrounded by community.
No judgement. I get it.
Modern humanity has become disconnected as a result of innovation. Innovation which, by the way, has many advantages and benefits. That’s probably why many religious groups, such as the Amish, believe in a separation from popular culture.
At the core of innovation is progress. Yet, one core disadvantage is a disconnection from the truest form of ourselves and from the distractions of progress.
As I believe that innovation is the main reason behind a disconnection from oneself it’s easy to refer to disconnection through the lenses of innovation for a solution.
1. Journaling
The art of writing down your thoughts and reflecting upon them offers you insight into your mindset such as patterns from a third-person perspective.
Journaling also can be a safe space for you to explore what is often not said or hidden. Asking yourself those deeper questions and understanding the why’s can offer you insight into your thoughts.
2. Mindful Meditation
Meditating on specific topics such as: gratitude or resilience, can help you achieve positive results in thoughts that are usually negative or overwhelming.
We often think the same thoughts as soon as there is silence, meditating on a specific topic can narrow your thoughts into a category you intentionally want to explore.
3. Exploring Your Values
Another way to reconnect to yourself is to explore what matters to you. Perhaps it’s financial stability or deep relationships with family and friends. Whatever it is, understanding the reasons behind those values will help you reconnect to yourself.
