As a digital marketer/content strategist/PR guy, Frankie collaborates with an array of publications to ensure that the content he plays a part in creating is given its time to shine.
Prior to entering the internet marketing realm, Frankie worked for a non-profit where he fought to address the needs of the under-served indigenous population of Latin America in efforts to improve overall quality of life.
Frankie's true passion lies in humanitarian work, international travel and all things GREEN. He tries to combine all three when possible. After a mission trip to the mountains of Riobamba, Ecuador, he was bitten by the travel bug and hasn't been able to find an antidote since. Thus far, he's been fortunate enough to have set foot in over 15 countries, for both leisure and volunteering opportunities.
Frankie studied at the University of Delaware and, after relocating to Tampa, received a degree in Public Relations from the University of South Florida. Upon graduating college (followed by a brief stint back up North), he decided that living, working and playing was much more fun in sunny Florida and made the decision to reside there permanently with his new wife and Siberian Husky.
At least 29% to as high as 43% of men will experience some form of IPV according to the infographics. It’s a good thing that they don’t experience any adverse affects (sarcasm) like women and children do. At least that would be the indication based on what’s not in the infographics. Since there is very little information on nearly half the adult population in these infographics, I would have to say that the answer to the question “Is Domestic Violence a Bigger Problem Than We Realize?” is yes.
As a co-author of a British/Irish book (with Mary T Cleary) about how to protect yourself against women with malicious intent, we’ve seen these types of inaccurate statistics being routinely re-used over and over again. Domestic Violence is actually gender neutral. The DV industry knows this, yet some feminist/women’s groups refuse to accept in public that men are ever victims. These same groups receive MILLIONS of dollars in government aid to help women, not men. In effect, by excluding innocent male victims of domestic violence, they are also abusing those men. Those groups can’t afford to let the truth out.… Read more »
Yet some shelters will not allow adolescent males. So I guess that not only men are often left out of the stats but male children are as well.
to much focus on women (big surprise) come again when it’s more balanced.
Bye
Domestic Violence affects both genders and sadly this info graphic downplays the effects on men. How many men are killed each year by their intimate partner? Given that studies have shown that both genders instigate domestic violence at a similar rate does that mean there are 7 million male incidents of IPV costing an additional unreported 8.3 Billion annually? Another dubious “statistic” is that “domestic violence is the most common cause of injury for women… ” The CDC reports 40 Million Women visit emergency rooms annually, of these approx. 550,000 for violence related injuries, of those less than 40% were… Read more »
So, according to the figures in the post, about 45% of the people who have experienced “rape, physical violence, and/or stalking by an intimate partner in their lifetime” have been male … but 11 out of the 13 stats/infographics in the post refer exclusively to female victims. Domestic violence may not discriminate, but unfortunately the same cannot be said for this infographic from (presumably) the University of New England. The Good Men Project has in the past run some superb articles about the unique difficulties confronting male victims. I think the awareness of those challenges should be incorporated into posts… Read more »
And then there’s Anna Benson
“The spitfire wife of former Mets hurler Kris Benson was busted Monday after she allegedly burst into his Atlanta apartment wearing a bulletproof vest and tried to rob him at gunpoint.
Anna Benson also reportedly whipped out an “expandable metal baton” and threatened to beat her estranged husband with it Sunday, TMZ.com”

Does that mean major league baseball has a domestic violence problem. I guess not as long as it’s only the players being victimized.
