Marianne Williamson Promotes Peace and Love

What is there to say about Marianne Williamson?

Until the debate I had no idea who she even was. I’m not a big self-help guy. But, Williamson sounded like a person to be reckoned with.

I’m not sure, even now, after looking into her a little for this piece, if she is serious about running for president or just researching a book. Either way I think she is making the whole thing more interesting.

She supports Medicare for all but thinks we need to work on keeping people healthy. Here is a radical plan that probably makes more sense than trying to heal them. Though, it isn’t something you are used to hearing on a debate stage. She supports a lot of liberal democratic policies.

Williamson plans to start a Department of Peace if elected. Another really good idea. Why not try to build better relationships everywhere. When you think about how long we have been stuck in Afghanistan, how we are drawn to the mess in Iraq, our mess, how Iran looms large on the horizon as the next pointless, unwinnable war, that will kill our children and waste our money why not try to find a solution that doesn’t involve war? And, if you look at a victory in war as getting your enemy to behave as you wish it is obvious we are never going to win these wars, the best we can hope for is to destroy the country. It may sound naïve, but trying to win the peace might be easier.

In what has to be a first she offered to use the power of love to defeat the fear and hate that Trump uses to keep his followers in a constant state of agitation. Peace and love, all we need is the rock and roll to make her an ideal #RiseOfTheHippies candidate.

It is hard to see Williamson winning the nomination, let alone the election, but many people said that about Trump, and her policies are a lot more pleasant to consider. But, I’m not sure being president is so simple that anybody can do it. Maybe Trump has proven it might be better to have someone with a little on the job training. Still, she could be one of the bright spots in this campaign if you just listen to what she says without wondering what she is leaving out.

In what has to be considered one of the brighter spots in this new cycle Amy McGrath, a retired fighter pilot, is challenging Mitch McConnell for his Senate seat. She is a serious contender and has a lot of support. If you would like to donate a little and help remove one of the biggest roadblocks to real progress here is her website. The whole world would breathe a little easier without his party first approach to government.

In other news, the wonderful people at The Good Men Project have agreed to let me chronicle my vacation to the top of a mountain in Montana. Stay tuned, it won’t be as boring as it sounds.
