Evil vibes bounce back and forth around the room.
I say he wouldn’t dare hit me. He does.

I meet a man in a dark room.
Just me and him in a tiny room.
A bit of light standing between us.
We stand and stare for a moment.
Face to face. Eye to eye. Silent.
Questions running through my head.
Why am I even here?
Who is this man? I’ve never seen him before.
What does he want from me?
He speaks to me in a deep voice, saying,
“I am your blood, your grandfather.”
We shout harsh words at each other.
Evil vibes bounce back and forth around the room.
I say he wouldn’t dare hit me. He does.
He tests me and says I won’t hit him back. I do.
It’s quiet. No words at all.
We stare at each other with much pride.
He speaks softly and slowly. He says,
“If I turn my back on you, you die.
But if you turn your back on me first, I die.
Your choice…”
As if he knew the most important thing about me.
I wouldn’t take the life of another human being.
I am nervous, sweating, and thinking.
What if he turns around first?
One minute…two minutes…three minutes…
Every minute that passes by feels like an eternity.
I wake up. What a horrible dream.
Ten years later…
January 12, 2016. 6:47 p.m.
I hear a voice.
“So we meet at last…”
I meet the man in my dream.
My grandfather, recently released from prison.
Charged for murder. Sentenced to 35 years.
He claims he is innocent and was framed.
Should I trust this man I’ve never met?
Should I believe what he says?
Or should I turn my back on him?
