Took the family to Buffalo Wild Wings on a summery day in Chicago. We were there for the early shift — 5:30 pm, and the booths were packed with kids, ranging from kindergartners to highschoolers. Of the dozen or so tables occupied at 5:30, all of them had kids. By 6:30, the rest of the dining room was filling up with the older, football-loving crowd, but for the time I was there with my family, my kids felt right at home and everything about the experience said relax and enjoy yourself to me.
I started by ordering a 20 oz Game Changer Beer by Red Hook. It was the end of a hot summer day and my kids slurped down their root beers before the food came. I had to stop myself from doing the same with the Game Changer.
The Game Changer is colored like an amber but thin like an ale. It’s lightly sweet but totally refreshing, and even though it goes flat on the back of the tongue it is a crisp and balanced beer, neither too hoppy nor too light. Polishing off the last of my jerk chicken sandwich, which had a nice kick that made my day, I savored the last drop of the Game Changer as the kids finished their ice cream. My daughter, six, had inhaled her burger and the boy, seven, considered nabbing one more boneless wing with the sweet barbeque sauce–the smiley faced one, he calls it. He dared me to try the cross-eyed Wild sauce, but my beer was gone and I wouldn’t be having another until after their bedtime. We left Buffalo Wild Wings feeling satiated, content, and happy. It really was the perfect family outing—and I'll be sure to sneak back throughout football season, as it would be an ideal place to watch a game, drink a Game Changer, and have one more round of wings with that sweet barbeque sauce.
