I have seen the Uber video that many are talking about now. The video I speak of, is police officers stopping an Uber driver who turned out to be a lawyer. Talk about karma. What are the odds? If you were camping out in the desert and missed it, you can see the video here:

I breathed a sigh of relief and almost shed a tear.
Twenty years ago or more, I once sat in a small room and said, “Is it impossible to believe that a cop won’t lie? Have you ever lied before Officer Dow?” Then having the person presiding over the case say to me, “Mr. Dow is not on trial here. You are!” With me replying, “It goes to the credibility of the witness and as such can be explored, your Honor”. It fell on deaf ears. The Judge was just livid at the mere suggestion, that some black man, would question the integrity of a white cop. Who I knew to be a liar because I knew then what people have just learned in the last few years. A cop can be recorded and I had recorded evidence he had falsified a police report. He smugly admitted it to me, not realizing I was recording him during an early interrogation downtown. “Who do you think they’re gonna believe, you or a cop?” is what he said to me on that day. After that, I got into the habit of recording any encounter with the police by reflex. But I’m straying…
Seeing this cop being caught lying on tape to a lawyer, no less, was personal vindication for me.
Mick said it best when he crooned, ‘every cop is a criminal and all sinners are saints’.
The point that I’m making is, the most disturbing thing about this video is that it’s clearly either one of two things, and what follows can’t be disputed. It’s either the cop does not himself know the law he swore to uphold or he makes it up as he goes along by his willingness to say anything. Intrinsically, knowing that as a cop, he will be believed or should be believed automatically, with no thought to the fact that the cop could be lying.
It’s chilling, the possibilities that now we as a Nation have to face. No, you can’t use the Race Card on this one. This happened to a white Uber driver. Yes, a white guy, one of your own. It’s now just time to face the very real horror, our cops are out of control and many, obviously corrupt. Maybe not all cops, but surely this one has left no doubts as to the kind of “Law Enforcement Officer” he is.
They actively use their authority to destroy peoples lives, while actively telling them that they brought it upon themselves as an excuse and mantra. The question you have to ask now is, if this cop was confident enough to lie on camera about this “new law” that made recording ‘illegal’, how many other times has he lied or made up things to cover over wrongdoing? Say, on the witness stand? In police reports? In evidence collecting? In forensics? In interrogations? In anything? You’re forced to ponder it, even if you don’t want to.
Personally, I have a strong gut feeling that there are many innocent people in jail right now because of this one cop. We should consider ourselves lucky if he is the only bad cop in his department, because if there are others…….
It’s not a race thing. It’s not a culture thing. It’s a power thing with our cops. We trusted them with the power to do good. We are blatantly now seeing that our trust has been misplaced.
It’s kind of funny, that Sheriff in Milwaukee once said, “there’s a war on cops”. When I heard that, I immediately thought, you’re right. There is a war on cops. No one is afraid of you anymore. I am sorry it’s this way and don’t know how it all got started. But one thing I do know, from where I sit, it looks like you cops started this war, not us. Remember, you had the power, we the people entrusted it to you.
It’s high time that something be done about cops who won’t do their jobs ‘by the book’ or who won’t do them honestly. Selective law enforcement, law enforcement through deception and law enforcement based upon race, only serve to erode the public’s trust. In the end, people feel more inclined to take matters into their own hands than in calling the police. Why? Because people fear what they don’t trust. Sadly, this video proves that many cops cannot be trusted.
