The new Flash series from The CW debuts in October. Are you planning to watch?
The Flash series debuts on CW at 8pm Eastern on October 7th. The new show will exist in the same universe as Arrow, the popular CW show about DC Comics superhero Green Arrow.
One notable aspect of the series is the casting of Candice Patton as Iris West. In the comic book continuity, Iris West is the wife of Barry Allen, the aunt of the third Flash, and the grandmother of the fourth Flash. Candice Patton, who will be playing Iris West, is of black and Asian heritage. What this means is that every subsequent Flash (in the CW continuity) related to Iris West will be multiracial. Nicely done, CW. While the show will likely never get to the children of Barry and Iris — CW characters tend to be perpetually twentysomethings — an interracial relationship will almost definitely be a focus of the series. The Flashes are also the time travelers of the DC universe, so it’s not completely out of the realm of possibility that we’ll see Barry’s nephew and grandson appearing from the future.
Flash fans will notice that the narration is actually a Wally West (the third Flash) line: “My name is Barry Allen, and I’m the fastest man alive.”
Are you as excited as I am?
