This is a culmination of my experiences as a black person living in the U.S. and survival lessons I’ve either been taught or have passed down from generations of other black folks.
About Matthew Castilla
Matthew Castilla was born in Jackson, MS. He has had his work debuted as a Composer in venues such as Brown University and Tufts University, the Atlanta 48 hour Film Festival, and for different churches; he has remained dedicated to expressing his musical gifts via saxophone as well. His debut album “Dark Days / Bright Lights” was released January 2019, and is an instrumental journey of his trials from his father's death, his bout with depression, and finding joy beyond sorrow. He produced each track and it truly is a representation of every influence of his from classical to gospel to hip-hop to jazz to you name it. It’s soulful in that it has pieces of his actual soul flowing from the music.
